Pressed by Nature
COLD-PRESSED · UNREFINED · SINGLE-ORIGIN
WHAT "UNREFINED" ACTUALLY MEANS
When customers receive our rosehip oil for the first time and notice the deep amber-red colour and earthy scent, some are surprised. They have been conditioned to expect pale, odourless oils — because that is what the refining process produces. We want to be clear: the colour and scent of our oils are not imperfections. They are proof that nothing has been removed.
An unrefined oil retains its full fatty acid profile, its naturally occurring vitamins, and the volatile aromatic compounds that give each botanical its character. A refined oil has had all of these stripped out — and in some cases, synthetic versions added back in.
SIDE BY SIDE
| ASPECT | REFINED (INDUSTRY STANDARD) | UNREFINED (PRESSED BY NATURE) |
|---|---|---|
| Colour | Pale yellow or colourless (bleached) | Deep amber, golden, or ivory (natural) |
| Scent | Odourless (deodorised) | Characteristic earthy, nutty, or botanical |
| Fatty Acids | Partially degraded by heat | Full spectrum preserved |
| Vitamins | Reduced or destroyed | Intact — Vitamins A, C, E, K present |
| Shelf Life | Longer (antioxidants removed, then added back synthetically) | Shorter — refrigerate after opening |
THE FOUR PILLARS
Heat is the enemy of quality in botanical oil extraction. Above 45°C, fatty acids begin to oxidise, volatile aromatic compounds evaporate, and the oil's natural colour bleaches. Every oil in our range is pressed at temperatures that preserve the full biochemical profile of the plant. The colour and scent you receive are evidence of this — not side effects.
The conventional oil industry uses hexane (a petroleum-derived solvent) to extract residual oil from the pressed cake. The resulting oil is then bleached to remove colour and deodorised to remove the natural scent. We do none of this. What you receive is the oil as it came from the press — nothing added, nothing removed.
Every product in our range traces back to a named origin — a specific farm, cooperative, or region. We know the growing conditions, the harvest method, and the extraction facility. This traceability is not a marketing claim; it is a supply chain requirement we enforce with every supplier.
We source from farms and cooperatives that practise regenerative agriculture, fair-trade labour, and ecosystem preservation. Several of our suppliers are women's cooperatives in West Africa and the Middle East. Supporting them is not an afterthought — it is part of why we source where we do.

A NOTE ON TRANSPARENCY
We are a brand built on the quality of what's in the bottle. We don't use certification logos we haven't earned, and we don't make claims we can't substantiate. The Pressed Promise is our own standard — one we set, enforce, and are accountable for.
If you have questions about a specific product's sourcing, extraction method, or testing, contact us directly. We will answer with specifics, not marketing language.
